| The main mission of the Live Poets’ Society (LiPS) is to foster the appreciation and writing of poetry. One of our group’s most notable successes is John Ballam who joined in 2003, not knowing if he could write poetry. Barely a year later Umsinsi Press has published his first collection The World, The Flesh and the Devil – an Anthology of Poetry for Life’s Lovers. This beautifully produced volume includes sensual art of the late and much loved Jeff Chandler.
Its Durban launch will take place during the next gathering of LiPS at 5.30pm Wednesday 12 May in Adams Books Coffee Shop, Musgrave Centre.
John Ballam says, “These poems are about the sexual experience … also about spirit that is found there. Sexuality is the sacred altar where flesh and spirit meet …”
For the evening’s theme he has understandably nominated The Flesh. Those with poems which could be linked to this meaty subject are invited to present them. Then in the Poet Pourri section of the get-together you may air your work on any subject you wish.
Entry is free and all are welcome regardless of whether you write poetry. As there is no booking, latecomers are advised to bring cushions or folding chairs. For more details contact Brett – 0825160517, 031 2664762 (a/h) or e-mail thirdeye@3i.co.za
