Performing Arts Scholarships Programme opens for registrations
by Press Release
30 April 2012

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT), in association with Nedbank and the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO), annually makes an amount of R 210 000 available for two performing arts scholarships. Deadline for applications 31 May 2012

“Nedbank has a proud history of supporting arts and culture in South Africa through the Nedbank Arts Affinity programme and we remain committed to cultural development, promotion and preservation through the sponsorship of the Arts and Culture Trust Scholarship Programme,” says Maseda Ratshikuni, Head: Nedbank Cause Marketing.

Now in its fourth year, the ACT/ DALRO / Nedbank scholarship programme is open for participation by Grade 12 learners. Undergraduates who are not registered for a degree during 2012, and who are older than 18 and younger than 25 years of age, are also eligible for participation. The closing date for registrations is 31 May 2012.

Candidates will be assessed on their acting, dancing and singing ability. To secure a spot in the final round of the competition participants will be required to demonstrate competence in all three disciplines, with exceptional talent in at least one. Two winners will be selected by an independent panel of judges comprising experienced professionals working in the performing arts. The winners will be at liberty to select their preferred performing arts course at any accredited South African tertiary institution

Auditions will take place in Grahamstown at the National Schools Festival on Monday 9 July followed by regional rounds hosted in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday 10 July, in Johannesburg on Friday and Saturday 13 & 14 July, in Cape Town on Friday and Saturday 20 & 21 July and closing off with final auditions in Durban on Friday, 28 July.

The final round of the competition, scheduled to take place on Thursday, 4 October, will be hosted by UJ Arts & Culture at the University of Johannesburg.

“The relationship DALRO has with the Arts & Culture Trust is one that is not only rooted in the two organisations’ love and passion for the arts, but also the vision to educate and stimulate the youth within the arts,” adds Nothando Migogo, Managing Director: DALRO.
